It is important to focus on the learning, rather than the activity.
Having focused on the learning, reference can now be made to the activity.
This focused on the pupils understanding that some Ancient Egyptian people were more important than others. In ‘home groups’ the pupils were initially asked to show evidence of their present understanding, by placing members of Egyptian society in a hierarchical order.

Then after using the different resources the pupils were asked to re-join their ‘home groups’ and discuss their findings. Following the discussion pupils were then asked to make necessary alterations to their original hierarchical orderings.

Appropriate assessment strategies
Throughout the lesson the following strategies were used, focusing on a group of pupils who were targeted as a result of the previous week’s assessment.
