- discussion/questioning
Pupils were
asked to explain and describe what they had learned.

- observation
Observations
were made on whether the pupils used the resources
appropriately, what kind of notes they were taking and
how they were discussing their notes.

- pupil self evaluation/self
assessment
Within
normal classroom practice learning objectives are always
shared and pupils have been trained to evaluate their own
achievements against them. Time is also set aside in a
lesson for pupils to reflect on their learning.

- feedback / marking
Oral
feedback was given throughout the lesson based on the
learning objectives, and where pupils were not focused,
learning was re-directed.
On-going successes were highlighted and areas for
improvement identified, leading pupils to recognise the
next step in learning.

- target setting
Usual
classroom practice focuses on ipsative assessment, i.e.
individual improvements are made on a pupils
previous performance.
